THE PILOT STATED HE WAS MAINTAINING A STEEP APPROACH ANGLE TO CLEAR TREES AT THE APPROACH END OF THE 2200 FT. RUNWAY. HE FLARED LATE, LANDING HARD AND DAMAGING THE FIREWALL.
