Narrative:A CATASTROPHIC (UNCONTAINTED) FAILURE OF THE LEFT ENGINE OCCURRED AT THE BEGINNING OF THE TAKEOFF ROLL. THE TAKEOFF WAS ABORTED & FIRE ERUPTED ON THE TAXI BACK TO THE GATE. INVESTIGATION REVEALED A BROKEN TURBINE LONG SHAFT.
