Written off (damaged beyond repair) 11.6.58 when crashed at Groningen-Eelde Airport, Province of Drenthe, 4.8 nautical miles South of Groningen, Netherlands; Aircraft stalled in a turn, hit the ground with its left wing, and nosed over. According to a rough translation from Dutch into English of the accident report (see link #2 for the original Dutrch text):

"11.06.1958
PH-UDE de Havilland DH82A Tiger Moth 3180
Groningen-Elede

NNAC gliders were being towed and the pilot returned to refuel first. During the final approach, he thought he was going too far past the gas pump with his runout and he decided to go around one more time.

He flew another circuit at a very low altitude. Before entering the last left turn, he pulled the plane up slightly and closed the throttle. He paid no attention to his speedometer. After the turn, the aircraft sank and slammed into the ground, left wing first, then came to rest on its back.

After this accident (and that of the PH-UDY on 20.5.58) the use of NLS aircraft for glider towing purposes was prohibited."

Registration PH-UDE cancelled 18.7.58 and the aircraft was scrapped.

NOTE: According to two published sources (see links #2 & #3) PH-UDE (ex-G-AJXJ) was built in Portgual by OGMA (Oficinas Gerais de Material Aeronautico) for the Portugese Air Force (Aeronauticas Militar) with the MSN "P26". It is believed that 91 examples were built, with "known" MSNs in the range P01 to P91. It is therefore possible that Rollasons sourced MSN P26 from this OGMA built batch of airframes in 1947.
