Took off from RAF Mepal at 23:20 hrs for a bombing operation against the Rheinpreussen synthetic oil installation at Meerbeck in Germany.
Outward-bound, the aircraft was shot down by night fighter pilot Oberfähnrich Gerhard Wartenborger of the 4./NJG 3, who was flying a Junkers Ju 88 G-1 from Plantlünne airfield in Germany; crashed at around 01:00 hrs in open countryside some 4 km N of Nederweert 4 km NE from the centre of Weert.
