Narrative:The aircraft was hit by Flak and developed engine trouble. The pilot, 1st Lt. G.W. Askew Jr., ultimately crash-landed the aircraft and was taken prisoner of war.
The Thunderbolt was flying fighter escort for the USAAF operation against Oschersleben, Sorau (Żary, Poland) and the Pölitz oil refinery at Police, Poland.
