Narrative:
The plane was ditched in the water by the pilot after engine failure. The pilot, 2Lt. Glenn L.Hodges, became POW.
The Thunderbolt was flying an escort flight mission, providing fighter cover for the B-17 formation withdrawing from an attack on Gilze-Rijen airfield, the Netherlands.
