Narrative:Republic F-84E-10-RE Thunderjet 49-2228, 22nd FBS, 36th FBW, USAF: Written off (destroyed) when pilot lost control after losing canopy in flight and crashed on the Schweinfurt Gunnery Range, Lower Franconia, Bavaria, West Germany, January 10, 1951. Pilot John K Hathaway, USAF was killed; he attempted to bale out, but was reportedly killed by structural failure and fatally injured when hit by pieces of the disintegrating wreckage of 49-2228.
