SEVERE INJURIES SUFFERED
TWO WOMEN IN PLANE CRASH (P.A.) New Plymouth, Nov. 13. A Tiger Moth aircraft en route from Palmerston North to New Plymouth crashed at Upper Palmer Road, Mahoe, about 6 o’clock this evening and the two occupants were severely injured. They were Miss Margaret Gale, of 72 Church Street, Palmerston North, who piloted the aircraft, and Miss Joan Judd, of Mayfair Flats, Palmerston North. Both suffered concussion and were taken to the Stratford Hospital. The aircraft was flying at 1500 feet when it ran into heavy cloud and visibility became so poor that Miss Gale decided to return to Palmerston North. As the machine turned it developed a spin and crashed on the farm of Hartley Brothers. Constable J. O'Donoghue, of Kaponga, to whom the crash was reported was quickly on the scene and supervised the removal of the injured women by ambulance. The aircraft, which belonged to the Middle Districts Aero Club, was extensively damaged. Bay of Plenty Times 14 November 1949 Page 2
