Narrative:De Havilland DH.82A Tiger Moth MSN 84240; Taken on charge by the RAF as T7868, nominally at 15 MU RAF Wroughton, Wiltshire 5.2.41. However, placed into long-term stroage in ‘purgatory’ at Rockley Farm, Cumnor, Oxfordshire; returned to Morris Motors at Cowley, Oxford for erection [undated, but probably August 1941]. To 20 MU RAF Aston Down, Minchinhampton, Gloucestershire 1.9.41. To 29 EFTS RAF Clyffe Pypard 11.9.41. To 38 MU RAF Llandow, Glamorgan 26.8.45 for long-term storage pending disposal.
Struck off charge when sold 13.5.46 to Royal Aero Club, London. UK civil registered as G-AHUE (CofR 10350/1) 12.6.46 to Airwork Ltd, Hounslow, Middlesex (later PIccadilly, London W1) and operated by Strathtay Aero Club, Perth/Scone Airfield, Perth, Tayside. CofA 7896 issued 26.7.46. Damaged on landing Strathtay Aerodrome 3.8.47; repaired and returned to service. Damaged on landing at Perth/Scone 24.4.48; repaired and returned to service. Damaged when crashed and overturned following engine failure, Broom Ridge Farm, St Ninians, near Stirling 24.10.50; repaired and returned to service.
New C of R No.R2486 issued 10.5.50. Club renamed Scottish Aero Club Ltd 4.56. Damaged when overturned on landing at Perth/Scone 24.4.58 [exactly 10 years to the very day of similar accident and the same airfield!]; repaired and returned to service.
Cancelled 1.1.60 and re-registered (C or R2486/2) on 29.1.60 to Airwork Services Ltd, Piccadilly, London W1 (aircraft remained based Perth/Scone, Tayside, Scotland). Registration cancelled 12.3.60 and re-registered 18.3.60 (C of R R2486/3) to The Cambridge University Gliding Trust Ltd, Cambridge. Registration cancelled 6.12.64 and re-registered (C or R R2486/4) on 11.1.65 to Walter Charles Hutchinson, John Michael Marshjones & John Kaye, Trustees of the Assets of the Staffordshire Gliding Club, Meir Aerodrome, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire. Damaged when undercarriage collapsed in heavy landing Meir Aerdrome, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire 20.12.64; repaired and returned to service.
Destroyed 5.4.70 in a mid air collision with a glider at Meir Aerodrome, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire. The Tiger Moth had been towing EoN 460 glider BGA1305, and the Tiger Moth was destroyed when it spun into the ground. The pilot of the Tiger Moth died, but the pilot of the glider was able to use his parachute, baled out, and survived with minor injuries.
Registration G-AHUE belatedly cancelled as "PWFU" ("Permanently Withdrawn From Use" 27.2.73
