Narrative:Brantly B-2: First civil registered in the UK as G-ARYX (C of R R7583/1) on 10/5/62 to BEAS (or to give the company its full name, British Executive Air Services Ltd) which was the sole UK distributor for the Brantly Helicopter Corporation, and the one-and-only registered owner of G-ARYX. The BEAS base at Kidlington was busy during the 1960s with assembly, flight testing and flying training of this new breed of two-seat helicopter.
G-ARYX had the distinction of being one of the UK's first ever Police Helicopters. Between March and September 1963, the Oxford Police, under Chief Constable C G Burrows were involved with flight trials involving the carriage of police dogs in helicopters. The BEAS Brantly, G-ARYX, was equipped with a light framed box hung on its port side slightly to the rear of the passenger seat. A single Alsatian police dog was carried in the kennel, a closed box with a forward facing mesh doorway easily accessible to the police dog handler in the cabin. At the appropriate time the handler would release the door and allow the dog to leap forward whilst the Brantly was still airborne in a low hover. To facilitate this, the door was removed from the passenger side of the cabin. The experimental use of Brantly G-ARYX was deemed a success, but was discontinued on cost grounds.
Written off 15/6/64 when crashed onto the East Berkshire Golf Course, at Crowthorne, Berkshire. Registration G-ARYX cancelled by the CAA on 8/7/64 as aircraft "destroyed"
