Narrative:On March 15, 2005, United Airlines flight UA846, a Boeing B767-322, N656UA, experienced a left engine surge during takeoff at Ezeiza International Airport, Buenos Aires, Argentina. The flight crew aborted the takeoff and the 10 crew and 168 passengers performed an emergency evacuation. Of the 178 passengers and crew, five sustained minor injuries, mostly associated with deployment and use of the emergency evacuation slides
Cause
On a regular international air transport flight, during the take-off run, the take-off run was interrupted before V1 when an engine failed due to internal damage, due to excessive torque of the levelling arm fixing bolts corresponding to the sixth stage of the high pressure compressor, which triggered the detachment of a blade in the compressor.
