4.2.1917: Royal Aircraft Factory B.E.2d of 16 Squadron, RFC. Shot down by air ace Werner Voss over Givenchy-en-Gohelle, a commune in the Pas-de-Calais department in the Hauts-de-France region of France. Of the two crew, one, Second Lieutenant Herbert Martin-Massey, was wounded in action (WIA); and the other, Second Lieutenant Noel Mark Hodson Vernham, was killed (KIA). The incident was Weber Voss's fifth victory in air to air combat.
