Narrative:
de Havilland DH.82A Tiger Moth MSN 85866; Taken on charge by the RAF as DF117, nominally at 15 MU RAF Wroughton, Wiltshire 19.9.42. However, placed into long-term storage in ‘purgatory’ in the Oxfordshire area; returned to Morris Motors at Cowley, Oxford for erection 13.3.44. To 20 MU RAF Aston Down, Minichinhampton, Gloucestershire 29.3.44. To Pilotless Aircraft Unit, RAF Manorbier 25.8.44. Returned to 20 MU Aston Down 10.4.46 for long-term storage pending disposal.

Struck off charge when sold 5.11.53 to R A Stenner. UK civil registered as G-ANKU (C of R R4355/1) 24.12.53 to Herbert Alfred Stenner, London WC1 (aircraft based at Panshanger, Hertfrodahire). (Airframe registered with fuselage no. DH3943 - possibly Morris Motors MSN?). C of A issued 27.3.54. Registration cancelled/lapsed 16.4.55 and re-registered (C of R R4355/2) on 26.4.55 to Herts & Essex Aero Club (1946) Ltd, Stapleford, Abridge, Essex. Registration cancelled/lapsed 21.4.61 and re-registered (C of R R4355/3) 1.6.61 to Alfred Frederick Warnell, t/a Warnell Aviation, Stapleford, Essex.

Written off (damaged beyond repair) when crashed on take-off at Kilpedder, Co.Wicklow 10.8.65 whilst filming "The Blue Max"; remains used as prop at Baldonnel. Registration G-ANKU cancelled 23.8.65 and remains registered (C of R R4355/4) 25.8.65 to Twentieth Century Fox Productions Ltd, Soho Square London W1 (aircraft based at Baldonnel, Ireland). Registration G-ANKU cancelled 29.10.65 as 'destroyed'.
