Hannes Hagspiel On August
29th the 140-h.p. Aeronca with
which Hagspiel was towing struck
the ground at ahout a 45-degree
angle following a severe upward
tug from the glider behind which
simultaneously broke the quarter
inch polyethylene tow rope. Hag
spiel was towing Hague Ellis in his,
Hagspiel's, own K-6. It was Mr.
Ellis's second aero tow, the pre
vious one having been made dual,
with Hagspiel, in the K-7. The
wind, according to reports, was
gusting to 20 knots at the time. The
K-6 pilot released the rope and
landed without incident. The tow
pilot died while being transferred
from the Heber City (Utah) hospital
