de Havilland DH.82A Tiger Moth MSN DHA.981; Byuilt by DH Australia at Bankstown,m Sydney, NSW. Taken on charge by the RAAF as A17-546 at 2 Aircraft Depot, Richmond 29.6.42. To 1 AOS Cootamundra 6.7.42. To 10 EFTS Temora 20.7.42; to storage reserve 28.5.45; transferred to Care & Maintenance Unit 12.3.46; advertised "for sale" 11.7.47.

Struck off charge when sold 13.1.48 for £150 to N L Wickens, Bexley, NSW; issued 23.1.48. Australian civil registered as VH-BLH (C of R 1548) 4.6.48 to Emlyn B Rees, North Brighton-le-Sands, NSW. Regd 1.9.48 to John D Curtis, Guildford, NSW. Re-registered 29.5.50 to Emlyn B Rees, North Brighton-le-Sands, NSW. Re-registered 26.2.51 to William Campbell-Hicks, Condobolin, NSW. Re-registered 20.7.51 to John P Conley, Broken Hill, NSW. Re-registered 29.8.52 to Kingsford Smith Flying Service (School?) Pty Ltd, Bankstown, Sydney, NSW. Re-reregistered 21.9.55 to Schutt Aircraft Sales & Service Pty Ltd, Moorabbin, Melbourne, Victoria. Converted for agricultural (crop spraying/top dressing) operations with hopper in front cockpit and a roll cage (see link #5). Re-registered 20.7.56 to Schutt Airfarmers Pty Ltd, Moorabbin. Re-registered 28.8.58 to Aerial Missions, Seaford, Victoria. Re-registered 25.2.59 to Cove Air Ltd, Kangaroo Island, South Australia, (later Adelaide, SA).

Badly damaged when struck plough and jeep on landing Snug Cove, King Island 20.3.59. Presumed repaired and returned to service, as still operating as a crop sprayer with Coveair from Kangaroo Island SA, in May 1964 (see link #5). Cropdressing Tiger Moths operated from Parafield until 1965 when Department of Civil Aviation grounded the the type for agricultural flying because of the high pilot casualty rate compared with newer purpose-designed Agricultural aircraft. WFU ("Withdrawn From Use") by the end of 1965, and registration VH-BLH cancelled 21.4.66.

Sold to Keith Orphan 1967. Sold late 1968 via Maurice Whittington to Leo Gay, Glendale, California. Sold 1969 to Robert N Kirby, Santa Ynez, California; for sale by him late 1972, airframe described as a “basket-case”. Sold 2.6.74 to Stan V Worth, Toluca Lake, California. US civil registered as N87677 (application dated 12.12.74) on 21.2.75 to Stanley Valentine Worth, Toluca Lake, California (aircraft based at Santa Paula). Rebuilt and CofA issued 15.1.80.

Destroyed in crash during low level aerobatics near Oak View, Ventura County, California, 31.8.80; owner and passenger killed. According to the official NTSB report into the accident (see link #6):

"There were 2 fatalities. Incident occurred at 17:00 hours. The airframe was destroyed. The flight departed from Oxnard, California, stopping at Local, on the way to Santa Paula, California. Aircraft stalled or mushed while performing aerobatics. Incident occurred at or near Oak View, California". The NTSB report also states "PIC (Pilot In Command) failed to obtain/maintain safe flying speed [and had] lack of familiarity with aircraft"

Registration N87677 cancelled 13.10.81 as 'destroyed'. Remains of aircraft sold 15.2.86 by Estate of Stan Worth & re-registered 18.4.86 to Matthew M Mattavich, Ventura, California (as ‘salvage’); (later at Las Cruces, New Mexico 3.2006). Registration N87677 cancelled 24.10.2013 by FAA as "expired"
