Narrative:TZ240: Spitfire FR XVIII, built by Vickers Armstrong (Supermarine) at Aldermaston with Griffon G67 engine. To 33MU RAF Lyneham, Wiltshire 12-1-46. To RAF St. Mawgan, Cornwall 16-5-46. To Mediterranean Air Force (Middle East). To 208 Squadron at Gebel Hauz, Palestine 12-7-46
Written off (damaged beyond repair) 21-12-48 when crashed in emergency landing at RAF Kabrit (LG-213), Kabrit, Egypt. While in flight, during a tactical reconnaissance, the pilot became aware of serious vibrations emanating from the engine, which was caused by the propeller having shed several propellor blade tips, which caused the engine to run "out of balance". An emergency landing was made on the airfield at RAF Kabrit, Egypt. In his hurry to get the aircraft safely down on the ground, the pilot forgot to lower the undercarriage, and the Spitfire bellylanded at RAF Kabrit, causing severe damage to the aircraft's underside
Not repaired; damage assessed as Cat E 21-12-48 and Struck Off Charge 13-1-49
